One Room Challenge (ORC): WEEK ONE
WHY ORC?
We love sharing all the details behind our makeover projects. What better way to expand our reach then partner up with the ORC community? Many of our Livlii advisors have gushed over the incredible ORC projects fellow designers and bloggers have shared over the years. We are THRILLED to finally be joining with this challenge.

WHAT SPACE DID WE PICK?
Although Livlii is currently supporting numerous clients in their flexible home decor journey, instead of adding unnecessary time pressure we decided to take on a new personal project. The space we’ll be featuring in this ORC is a single family home backyard patio.

WHY THIS SPACE?
It was important to the Livlii team to complete the ORC in real-time. Here’s what we considered that lead us to selecting a backyard patio.
The space and project had to…
- Be seasonally appropriate. So no fireplace makeovers when it’s Spring.
- Weather independent-ish. There needed to be enough work around time should the weather be wet and cold while also having enough mini-projects that we could complete INSIDE if need be
- Aligned with our contractors schedules. At Livlii we work with incredible contractors that are typically managing multiple projects at a time. So any portion of the project that required inspections, specialized trade-work, etc. needed to align with our contractor’s schedule
- Include A LOT of creative DIY projects that featured a range of skills- for the novice and for the experienced DIYer
- Aligned with our own personal brand and messaging- so no home renovation projects that were near a year’s salary or supports RIGID decor
- In line with this year’s budget for home improvement
- Include restoration and/or makeovers of existing home decor, furniture, and or existing structures
IN THE END, WHAT DO WE HOPE TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS SPACE?
Our goal is to transform our fish-bowl backyard into a private hot-tub soaking oasis.
Ironically, this property had a broken hot tub when it was purchased nearly 20 years ago, which was stored on top of a decayed and unstable deck. The privacy has been the #1 concern with getting a hot tub back into this space.

WHAT MINI-PROJECTS CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THIS BACKYARD MAKEOVER?
Here’s what you can expect.
- Patio Paver Restoration
- Upgrading post and rail fence with privacy vinyl fence
- Planters and landscape restoration and updates- paint, new plants, new location, etc.
- Updated interior and exterior electric for new patio lighting and hot tub
- New Hot tub -installed and
- Restoration of exterior shed – siding cleaning and painting doors and trim, ideally repair the window
HOW WILL THIS ORC PROJECT BE DIFFERENT THAN OTHER BACKAYRD ORC projects we’ve done?
There have been some INCREDIBLE outdoor ORC spaces. We’re hoping that this project offers some unique mini-projects that promote flexible decor, highlights some incredible contractors that we partner with, combined with a range of DIY projects for both experienced and newbies at DIYing.
We cannot wait for this backyard adventure!
